What Makes This BookClub Unique?
- Community-Driven: Our members are our curators. Our members collaborate to select the upcoming year’s reading list. Every December, we attend the Oregon Historical Society’s “Holiday Cheer” event together to scout local talent, gathering at our final meeting of the year to collaboratively pitch and vote on many of the upcoming season’s list.
- Direct Author Insights: Skip the standard discussion questions. We regularly invite the authors themselves to lead our meetings, giving you an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at their research, writing processes, and untold stories.
- Immersive Field Trips: We bring the pages to life with exciting field trips tied to themes and places from our readings, including visits to local museums and iconic Portland destinations.
- Accessible to Everyone (No-Cost Reading): We believe community and should have zero financial barriers. All our events are free, often with snacks and we make every effort to ensure every reader can access the books. We actively help members navigate public library apps like Libby, and provide physical copies purchased through grant funds whenever available or through direct trades with fellow club members.
