Slabtown’s name comes from the lumber mills that first populated the area with industrial laborers. Mills would sell slabs of log edges, cut to square logs, as a cheap source of fuel. Stacks of slabs, like those pictured, were a mark of lower class.

Led by Dr. Tanya Lyn March, an urban folklorist, these narratives are grounded in primary source history—medical records, spiritualist writings, census records, and newspaper archives. Haunted Joe’s Cellar

A run down dive bar with a yellow sign Joe's Cellar is behind. There is a balcony were women once sold sex to those existing the area. Second floor of the building is vacant.
