FAQ

How many guests might be on a tour? We limit our walking tours to a maximum of 12 guests; in October for our ghost tours we add a few extra slots when requested.  We will still lead any given tour even if there is only a single guest booked.

Why can’t we add more friends to your Ghost Tours?  We endeavor to promote the best experience for our guests. We  cap the size of each tour.  If you need a tour for a group and there are not enough spots we can sometimes add on an addition “private” tour if we have enough notice. Private tours are customizable and often save you and our guests money.

Do you offer ADA accommodations?  We have always offered powerpoint “slide shows” to accommodate guests that are excited to learn about the neighborhoods see our unique collection of historic images but who are unable to walk our tours. For example when masks were required we offered private tours for the group pricing.  Reach out directly we are flexible. The public tours Nob Hill and A Night with Ghosts have offered our guests the best rolling experience without any route changes.

Can we use our Gift Cards are Expired? We accept expired gift cards for our tours no questions asked.  We just ask that you consider tipping your guide when you use any gift cards.

What is your Refund Policy?  Refund requests need to be made 24 hours in advance.  We can rebook you to another tour time if requested. No shows are not offered refunds or rebooking. We will cancel and refund tours if there is a heat advisory, air quality advisory, icy conditions, volcano activity, or public emergency declarations.

Will you refund a tour if it is 100 degrees? If there is a heat advisory, that means a period of hot temperature expected by the local/national weather service. This can create a situation where heat illnesses are possible and it is recommended to stay out of the sun. Slabtown Tours LLC will try to reschedule the tour for interested guests. If the air quality is also unhealthy see next bullet point.

Do you lead tours if the air quality is bad? We ask that you please evaluate the air quality for you and your family. Your health is our top priority— let’s try to reschedule if needed.  If local schools and parks send out an air or heat advisory not to be active outside we will cancel impacted tours and refund the booked tours.

What do I do if I can’t make it to the scheduled tour? There are no refunds for no-shows, but if you cancel before the start of the tour, you can reschedule for another date. If you need to cancel, call 503.206.4676 or e-mail: slabtowntours@gmail.com. If you are running late for a tour please text 971.302.3926.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? The street car or bus is your best public transportation option. To plan your trip on public transportation we recommend  The Tri-Met website has a trip planner feature.  Parking meters are active in NW area tours until 7pm- the City if Portland encourage downloading an app called Parking Kitty.

Do we get to go inside the historic homes? No. But, please like the Slabtown Tour LLC Facebook page or sign up for our monthly email newsletter to stay informed about opportunities to enter historic homes.

I heard there is a waiver. Could you share the text with me?
Yes. Please e-mail Tanya March PhD at slabtowntours@gmail.com for a PDF of the waiver.  Our insurance company encourages each guest to sign the contactless digital waiver.  That document is sent to the purchaser for a digital signature upon purchase. If you purchase multiple tickets in a single transaction you will be reminded to forward the waiver to each participant.  The ticketing system will assist you in signing the waiver for minors and direct you to email a link so that all members of your party can sign the digital waiver.

What are all the Alphabet Streets and who are they named after? See the complete list of streets for details.

Can I bring my dog on the tour? Yes well-behaved dogs can join our standard tours on leash. We do not enter any buildings on our regular tours.

Can children take your nighttime tours? Some material on our Slabtown a Night With Ghosts Tour & St. Johns Murder, Mayhem & Oddities might not be suitable for children 12 and younger or those that are faint of heart. We are happy to lead kid friendly private ghost and crime tours.

Do people wear costumes on your October night tours? Costumes are not typical but they are always appreciated by our guides and the local ghosts.

What is your policy if there is ice or snow? It is not safe for us to operate tours on slippery streets. We will refund your tour costs. Often when ice is predicted we prevent reservations from being booked.

Are your tours fun for children? We have a series of tours that are designed for Summer Camps and School Groups. Those are not our public bookable tours. You know your child/children best if they love history or love scary ghost stories based on history they will enjoy your tour selection. Our history tours are more akin to a college class or an in depth extracurricular activity on foot.
