Focus on Women of Portland

Notable Women of Portland by Tracy J. Prince and Zadie Schaffer (2017)

Intro: Mother-daughter authors Tracy Prince Phd  and Zadie Schaffer have produced a book according to Prince that “goes into the messy parts of history. History is messy, and I don’t believe in cleaning it up,” From the cover “The story of Portland, Oregon, like much of history, has usually been told with a focus on male leaders. This book offers a reframing of Portland’s history–starting from 10,000 years of Native American women, to pioneer women, to women of the Progressive Era, WWI, WWII, and post-war women, with additional chapters on Women in the Arts and Women in Politics.”

Drugstore Cowboy Directed by: Gus Van Sant

Oct 26, (1999) DVD  Blue Ray

This movie is filmed in a number of Portland Neighborhoods, the bulk are in Nob Hill Portland.  Many MLC students were used in the filming. My personal favorite is the footage of the Lovejoy Columns such a small amount of this amazing free spirited art upon the columns were painted while he was on the clock Greek immigrant Tom Stefopoulos filled time between 1948 and 1952 to create numerous murals upon the raw cement protected by the overpass ramp.
